Hello there, my name is Benjamin Hutchins and I develop custom web, desktop, and mobile apps.

I do freelance and contract development work (feel free to contact me if you need a developer). I spend a lot of my time talking to my best friend, Rijvi Rajib, about everything and trying to grow a company of ours.

In my free time I create (open-source) projects and read books on my Kindle. With all the rest of my time that I can spare, I am with my loving girlfriend.

During the battle, Parental unites managed to refine their plans to the name their ultimate weapon, a new born male baby with enough power to destroy an entire planet, Ben Luke, after Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker. Now, almost two centuries later…

Who I am (Really)

My name is Benjamin Luke Hutchins. I am a self trained software engineer and web developer living in Maine. I loves the philosophies of open-source and do my best to help existing open-source projects while also adding my own titles to the world. I make a lot of random code snippets, feel free to use any of them.I'd like to point out that I am not a web or UI designer. I am definitely not the worst person for design but I am in all essence a developer, a software engineer, or a coder.

Things about me

Well, I am a Ubuntu-user, An-Droid-user, living in Maine where winters are brutal and summers don't get any better. If you look on a map of the United States you will see Maine is the 39th biggest state for size, but go look at the latest population census it's the 11th smallest state. I like to describe Maine as a Hicksville. To make it that much worse I live in a town that is so small it isn't even accounted for on the Maine Cities by Popluation records. I like to call my Hicksville of Hicksvilles known as Waterboro my home. I also have taken two years of Deutsch.

I have nine years of (X)HTML and CSS, and eight years of JavaScript development, and use modern coding standards in all my works.

Since I started working with computers one of the first things I learned what how to create a basic website using HTML and CSS. Since then I have expanded that knowledge to include Atom, CSS (2.1 Specification, CSS3 Draft), HTML (4, 5 Draft), RSS, XLS Transformations 1.0, XHTML (1.0 Second Edition, 2.0 Draft), XML (1.0 Fifth Edition), XML-RPC

I have been working with Javascript and Ajax JavaScript since it's been available. I have worked extensively with Mootools, Prototype, and jQuery javascript frameworks, and script.aculo.us, SWFObject. I have also worked with Ext, Dojo, and YUI

Web and Software Development

As a Python fan, I love to use Python for my web development; giving great reliability and speeds. I've worked with Django, on App Engine, web.py, Tornado; and have used py-gtk and py-gtkwebkit to make cross-platform desktop apps. However, Python doesn't work for everyone, and I originally learned PHP and have used it the most. I have worked with almost all major PHP frameworks and libraries (Wordpress, Smarty, Habari, Joomla, Drupal) and have many advanced libraries such as PDF, Mcrypt, ffmpeg, gd, and more. However, for older code bases, I also am very good with Perl, it was my firl dynamic computer language and I have used it to create many CGI web apps and desktop apps (through TCL/TK).
